Hair Cuts

I've let the kids  hair get a little shaggy. I've been meaning to get them hair cuts for the past few weeks, but never seem to find time to fit it in.

Connor is OK when his hair gets long, but I do worry the curls start to look a little girly if not totally messy.

It's harder for Chloe with too long hair, she just can't see. We have to pull her hair into a ponytail just to keep it out of her face.

We go to a place specifically for kids called Snip-its. They don't take appointments on the weekend so we end up having to wait, but the kids love it because there are tons of toys and lots of kids to play with, so ultimately it works out.

Play-Doh For The First Time

This morning Maria brought Play-Doh for the kids. It's their first time to play with it and they're pretty fascinated. So far they've made a dinosaur, a snake, Nemo (aka a fish), and a pizza. When Connor made the pizza I had to make sure we only "pretend eat."

Chloe likes to have Woody help her with her modeling.

Hopefully this will be a fun experience and I won't come home to find Play-Doh mashed into the furniture or in kids' hair or fed to the dog. If so, I guess our first experience with Play-Doh could be our last.

Taking Pictures

A few months ago, when I'd pull out a camera both kids would ham it up and sometimes I'd even get a "cheese!"

Lately, Connor doesn't want his picture taken, like he's decided his hair doesn't look good enough or I've taken enough pictures of him. When I start snapping he throws himself on the floor, runs away and yells at the camera/me.

Chloe on the other hand loves the camera. Not necessarily having her picture taken, but more the camera itself. When I start snapping she wants to look at the camera from the photographer's perspective. Here's a shot she took of herself with the reverse view.

We'll see how everyone's camera style changes in the next few months.

Best Daddy Ever!

My goal in 2012 was to post to the blog at least twice a week. So I already missed my goal the very first week of the year.

I turned out to be really busy last week. You may have heard me mention Uwezo the socially conscious shoe brand we’re launching. The shoes are made in Kenya from cowhide and proceeds from sales provide education for orphaned or venerable youth in Uganda through the non-profit Empower African Children

Uwezo had a booth at the Dallas Safari Club convention last week/end and I was there every day to help sell shoes.

This meant Carl was on super Daddy duty and he was awesome. I’m so grateful he’s my partner. He sings cute Yo Gabba Gabba songs to the kids when changing their diapers, “All our friends are different, but we love them just the same…”

He loves to play with all of their toys with them, he’s become a coloring book artist, although Chloe will color over anything done in her book, he’s also a master at packing the diaper bag. Not only does he get all the tactical diapers, wipes, and bibs, but he also brings along water bottles and cut up apple snacks. Daddy does it right!

New Year's Weekend

We had a lovely New Year's weekend. We didn't do too much, but just enough to enjoy ourselves.

The weather was unseasonably warm on Saturday and we were able to have lunch on an outside patio and let the kids run around an play. They burned off a ton of energy and took great naps.

We all stayed up a little too late on New Year's Eve so we had a lazy New Year's Day. It was a perfect start to the new year.
